Being active is important, especially during the day. As tempting as it is to just curl up in front of a movie or TV show, the kids will have too much pent up energy which may result in some meltdowns once it’s time to go down for the night. One of the best ways to give them the physical activity they need, and give yourself some fun cardio which you also need is to break out the music and do some free style dancing. The house will erode with laughter as everyone takes their turn strutting their stuff on the dance floor!
Cooking together is a great way to get the kids involved in what they eat. The mess comes with the territory so relax and accept the upcoming disaster. Pick a favorite dish that everyone can agree on and designate your little sous chefs to different ‘stations’. The meal will be that much more enjoyable if everyone gets a hand in making it.
Another fun way to get the physical activity is to host a family challenge with electronic game consoles likes Xbox Connect and Nintendo Wii. These simulated sports like golf or boxing provide a great outlet for physical energy and an incredible platform for comedic relief.
With so much focus on electronic devices, it’s nice to connect around a plain old fashioned board game like Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary or a game of cards. Don’t worry if your kids are varying ages, younger siblings can team up with the older ones to even the playing field.

Everyone can contribute their ideas and you can even begin researching and planning the holiday as a family.
