Hi! I’m Liza, and my husband’s name is Sanjay. I’m a CPA, and Sanjay is a Chiropractor. We have two children, Mila and Girish, who are active kids with busy schedules. We currently live in Lakeview, Mississauga but are relocating the Vales of Humber development to be closer to my aging parents. Our new home wish-list included: a space upgrade, a gourmet kitchen, home office space, and open concept living and dining areas. The Vales of Humber community allows for an easy commute to Sanjay’s clinic, with local amenities that cater to our children’s enthusiasm for sports and recreation. We chose The Bedford model, a 50 ft. estate that provided all we were searching for and more!
The Bedford entrance is through a covered porch with room for seating (Elevation A only) and with double-doors leading to a tiled foyer that is open to above. The open concept living and dining rooms are to the right of the entrance, separated by decorative columns and both featuring coffered ceilings. Ahead, a hallway with optional coffered ceiling features double coat closets and an arched entryway to the dining room.
From the hallway towards the back of the house is a transitional area, with entrances to the den, family room, main floor laundry room with exit to the two car garage, the staircase to the upper floor (which is open to above), and a second set of stairs that lead down to a landing with a powder room, before continuing on to the basement.
The den, with optional detailed ceiling, is the perfect size for my home office. It features plenty of natural light and is tucked away from the traffic of the main living areas, providing the privacy I need for working from home.
The open concept family room with optional detailed ceiling, bow window and direct-vent gas fireplace opens onto the tiled breakfast area and kitchen, through decorative columns. The breakfast area features a garden door leading to an optional covered porch, while the kitchen features an island with built-in breakfast bar, all major appliances and plenty of counter space for Sanjay, who loves to cook. A servery with walk-in pantry and optional sink connects the kitchen to the dining room.
Downstairs, the basement is unfinished, providing lots of potential for even more space, including the option for a walk-up and rough-ins for a three piece bathroom. A large cold cellar provides extra kitchen storage. The extra square footage in the basement allows us to further customize our new home, and provides space for the addition of an in-law suite in the future, should my parents decide to move in with us.
On the second floor, the staircase, open to below, leads to a landing with optional tray ceiling and a large linen closet. To the front of the home, a hallway, ending at a railing and open to the foyer below, provides access to the second, third and fourth bedrooms.
The second bedroom is smallest, but still features a walk in closet, and shares a bathroom featuring double sinks, and full bathtub with bedroom number three.
The frontmost bedroom (the third), features a cathedral or arched ceiling and large window, with walk-in closet and shared bathroom with the second bedroom.
The fourth bedroom, and largest, save the Master Suite, includes an ensuite with glass shower, a walk in closet and plenty of natural light, making it perfect for impressing the occasional overnight guest.
Our favourite part of the house is the Master Suite, which accounts for the back half of the second floor of The Bedford. Double doors lead into the large room, featuring a tray ceiling, bow window and optional direct-vent gas fireplace. His and Hers walk in closets flank the small transitional area off the main room leading to a large ensuite that showcases a gorgeous freestanding tub, glass shower, double sinks and makeup counter. The room is bright, luxurious, and spacious. Perfect for starting your day!
