Farmers’ Markets Close to our Communities

Now with Spring here, fresh local produce will be more widely available at your local grocery store. Bringing home fresh fruits and vegetables to your new house or condo is something you are likely already doing on a weekly basis.  Major supermarket chains are great about stocking both seasonal produce and imported products during off-season periods but depending on where you shop, you may have a hard time finding local produce that comes from growers that are right here in Ontario, closer to your house or condo. As the push toward buying fresh, local and sustainable food and produce becomes more prevalent in households across the GTA, you may want to consider shopping at Farmer’s Markets.  Bringing home food to your house or condo becomes very significant when you have a chance to speak with the producers and farmers themselves. Aurora Farmes’ Market                                                Running Saturdays from May to October you can see over 30 vendors and local farmers who sell produce, hot on-the-go foods, preserves, plants, jewellery, art, and more! There will be 8 special events with band-shell entertainment and free crafts for kids. Products available include in-season fruits, vegetables and garden plants, plus honey, preserves, and baked goods. Speciality items include candles, soaps, organic coffee, and original art. Brampton Farmers’ Market
Each Saturday from June to October you can visit Main Street, between Theatre Lane and John Street, transformed into a vibrant outdoor festival marketplace. Visitors gather to buy the freshest local Ontario produce, preserves, and baked goods from more than 40 vendors. Enjoy live entertainment and “Art in the Open” in Garden Square, beside the market. Newmarket Farmers’ Market
Every Saturday morning from the first weekend in May to the last weekend in October, a band of farmers, vendors, and volunteers create a hive of activity reminiscent of the town’s early years as a new market. A place to buy farm fresh produce, home-made baking, hand-made crafts, and a great place to meet up with friends over breakfast or lunch. The Village Market, Thornhill
Located within the Toronto Waldorf School campus, this Farmers Market features organic farmers and organic food with over 30 vendors including farmers each Saturday year-round. There is an unusually wide selection of organic foods, from fresh greens to root vegetables, apples, citrus fruits, milk, yogurt, beef, chicken, and salami. There is also a food-court style cafe with offerings from a number of different vendors of ready to eat food. Live music is another frequent attraction at the Village Market.
