Oscar Party – Entertaining Academy Style!

The Oscar buzz is among us and even if you’re not a movie buff who has already seen all of the nominated titles, watching the Academy Awards this Sunday will be something you won’t want to miss!  If you’re someone who has decided to invite some guests over to your house or condo this year to watch this year’s Oscars together, consider making a night of it and entertain in style with an Oscar Party. Your guests will feel honoured that you’ve taken the effort to step it up and since everyone wants to watch live and there’s no fast-forwarding through the commercials, having some fun Oscar themed cocktails and Hors d’Oeuvres will make the commercial break somewhat of a treat. Here are some tips for hosting a fabulous Oscar Themed Party at your house or condo this year:

As red as the Oscar red carpet, these Blood Orange Mimosas combine blood oranges and pomegranate liquor with a smooth bubbly to create a refreshing cocktail that goes well with Hors d’Oeuvres and sweets.  You can make these ahead by combining fresh blood orange juice, sugar, and pomegranate liqueur. Refrigerate until chilled. When you’re ready to serve pour into the bottom of champagne glasses and slowly top of with ice-cold Prosecco. Don’t allow your guests to leave your house or condo without drinking plenty of water!

Using vintage film reels as décor for your party is a great option as they’re versatile enough to be placed directly on top of a table like here with candles, or perhaps cupcakes or water bottles. You can also consider scattering them throughout your living room or viewing area and they’re stylish enough to perhaps match your existing house or condo decor.

These lovely red napkins are folded to look like the envelopes Oscar presenters use to announce winners. The added detail of the ribbon makes no mistake about it; And The Winner Is can be a simple DIY exercise in penmanship. Use a felt tip pen or super fine sharpie marker.

These Oscar statue cookies are adorable!  These ones were made using a mummy shaped cookie cutter which you can find in speciality baking shops. They stand upright thanks to the quick drying chocolate used on the base. For an added touch of Oscars, consider using edible gold leaf to cover these scrumptious cookies with some high gloss gold. Baking them yourself will create a lovely aroma in your house or condo which are always a welcoming treat.

A classic Hors d’Oeuvre like smoked salmon bites atop bread  with cream cheese are immediately Oscar-fied by making them star shaped using a star shaped cookie cutter and topping them off with some black caviar and a lemon rind for garnish.
